Daryl Morey, President of Basketball Operations for the Philadelphia 76ers, declared today that the team has extended the contract of Tyrese Maxey, the 2024 Most Improved Player and NBA All-Star. According to team rules, the details of the agreement were not revealed.

Tyrese excels on the basketball court and is also a wonderful human being. Ever since he became a part of the 76ers team, he has consistently put in hard work every day to develop and enhance his skills, leading to impressive outcomes. Managing Partner Josh Harris expressed his excitement about having him as a long-term franchise cornerstone, as his work ethic, drive, and energy are an inspiration to everyone.

An Impressive Season

During his fourth year in the NBA, Maxey ranked among the top 11 scorers in the league, with his scoring average rising from 20.3 points in 2022-23 to a personal best of 25.9. In addition, he posted his highest numbers in rebounds (3.7), assists (6.2), and steals (1.0) while playing 37.5 minutes per game. He was only 23 when he became the youngest player on the 76ers to maintain an average of 25.0 points and 5.0 assists in a complete season.

Morey stated that in Tyrese’s first four NBA seasons, he has proven his belief in the philosophy of improving by one percent every day. He hails from a fantastic family and is one of the most diligent individuals I have ever encountered. With Joel and Paul as partners, Tyrese plays a crucial role in our goal of bringing an NBA championship to Philadelphia. This extension reflects our confidence in Tyrese and I’m excited to see his growth as a leader and superstar.

Unprecedented Achievements

Maxey delivered three impressive 50-point games during his standout season, achieving a career-high of 52 points on April 7 in San Antonio, which put him at the top of the NBA leaderboard. He managed to achieve 30 points in 22 games last season, compared to the 14 games in his first three NBA seasons.

In 266 NBA games (193 as a starter) across four seasons, Maxey has been scoring an average of 18.2 points, along with 2.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists. He, along with Andrew Toney and Allen Iverson, are the only three 76ers to have accumulated at least 4,500 points and 1,000 assists in their first 266 NBA games.

Maxey’s 535 career three-pointers have placed him in sixth place in franchise history, just 29 made threes behind fifth place on the all-time team records. His shooting percentage of 39.6% from three-point range is the 15th best in the league since the beginning of the 2020-21 season for players who have made 500 or more three-pointers.

Continuous high quality

During the 2023-24 season, Maxey made five or more threes in 15 games, breaking the franchise record for most games in a season and placing him 10th in the NBA.

Since 2020, the player from Garland, Texas, has assisted in guiding Philadelphia to playoff appearances each year, resulting in a .632 winning percentage, ranking fifth highest in the NBA.

Daryl Morey,

The 76ers drafted Maxey with the 21st overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, following his one year at the University of Kentucky. Maxey played in 31 games (28 as a starter) for the Wildcats, with an average of 14.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. After finishing his first year of college basketball, Maxey was selected for both the 2019-20 All-SEC Second Team and the SEC All-Freshman Team. The ex-McDonald’s All-American also assisted the USA in achieving a gold medal at the 2018 U-18 FIBA Americas with the U-18 U.S. National Team.

The Adventure Goes On

Maxey’s rise from a skilled newcomer to an NBA All-Star showcases his commitment and effort. The fact that Maxey signed again shows that the 76ers are dedicated to creating a championship-level team centered around their young standout. His development and skill on the court, along with his guidance off the court, are essential for the team’s future.

As Maxey progresses, the 76ers and their fans can anticipate more exciting games and the quest for an NBA title. The path ahead is long, but with Maxey leading the way, the future appears promising for the Philadelphia 76ers.
