Luka Dončić, the top player for the Dallas Mavericks, encountered a major obstacle before Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics when he underwent a pain-relieving injection for a thoracic contusion, as per ESPN’s report on Tuesday. Nevertheless, it is expected that he will need one more shot before Game 3, which is set to take place in Dallas on Wednesday. Despite facing obstacles, the Celtics are currently leading the series 2-0 after winning the first two games in Boston.
Dončić provided assurance to reporters on Tuesday that he is feeling well. Although he didn’t give more information, it was clear that he was optimistic about his condition.
During Game 1, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd revealed that Dončić got a chest bruise, possibly from taking a charge or diving for a loose ball.
During the playoffs, Dončić has been facing challenges with ankle and knee injuries. His likelihood of playing in Game 2 was changed from likely to uncertain because of the thoracic contusion, but he was given the green light to play after warming up before the game.

In the second game, Dončić seemed unhurt at first, scoring 23 points in the first half. Nevertheless, he faced a decrease in performance in the latter half of the game, finishing with 32 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. In addition to his standout performance, he faced difficulties on defense and turned the ball over eight times, yet the Celtics still managed to win 105-98 and increase their series advantage.
Kristaps Porziņģis coping with an ‘uncommon’ leg injury
Apart from Dončić’s injury worries, the Celtics revealed on Tuesday that Kristaps Porziņģis has a torn medial retinaculum causing dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon in his left leg. Injured during Game 2, Porziņģis is now considered “rare” and is being assessed day by day for Game 3.
Porziņģis was clearly having a hard time after the injury, which is impacting his left ankle. Even with the disappointment, he remained positive about being able to play in Game 3, saying, “I’ll check my condition tomorrow.” I will definitely make every effort to be present tomorrow. And we will wait and see. I have a positive outlook. Like I mentioned, I will make every possible effort to be available tomorrow. I won’t be stopped unless someone tells me to or prevents me from playing.
